I'm tired of political correctness. Don't people understand that no matter what word you use, it still conjugates the same meaning? Political correctness is nothing more than a form of labeling. Are we just going to scratch down labels to the point where everyone is exactly the same? I might as well live in drone land. Seriously, for years people slap on a label or political correctness doesn't change the fact that we've separated someone just by a word.
In the beginning of Americas it was Negros, in the 20's through the 70's it was Nigger, then in the late 80's and it was Black, then in the 90's to now it is African-American...it all still means "a person with dark skin who comes from Africa (or whose ancestors came from Africa)" - thanks dictionary.com
Same thing with Midgets, Little People, Dwarfs it still means "a person of abnormally small stature owing to a pathological condition, esp. one suffering from cretinism or some other disease that produces disproportion or deformation of features and limbs.”
I can keep going, but y'all pretty much get the point. We have been using labels for centuries; I could also go off on an analytical paper about the good, bad, and ugly of labels (shit, half my undergrad was dealing with this topic).
We have gotten to the point regarding labels and PC about the same way my mom has gotten with veggies and soy. I told her she had to quit b/c one Thanksgiving she made us Soy-Pumpkin Pie. My brother and I made a statement right then and there "Mom, you've gotten carried away when you start substituting veggies with veggies"
