Yesterday's vote

People have been concerned about how Georgia's DOT spends the money receive from current taxes.  Things haven't improved. They need to figure out where the money is inproperly being spent, and then see if Special Projects can be built. If the accounting issue is fixed, and there is still a need for an increase in taxes, then the people will be able to support raised taxes. Until then, the people spoke: they don't want to pay more money when they can't trust that it will be managed correctly.

Quote from Todd Long (GDOT deputy commissioner) June 2012 regarding concerns about GDOT's accounting: “There is an issue with accounting issues and some of the systems we have,” Long said. “Both the department of audits and the state accounting office have been working to resolve the issue,” Long said. “The bottom line is, how the auditors wanted us to do it changed,” he said. “We have made major changes, major improvements." http://www.times-herald.com/Local/20120623GDOT-TSPLOST-MOS
