hanging in there.

wanna talk about irony? ok, so maybe it is not irony, but more funny.

I had an interview on Tuesday (yay) with a brand new private school. The headmaster wanted me to start that day planning and then the next day/week take over the AP History and Gifted History classes. Brilliant! My dream job, I get to teach the creme de la creme of students at a brand new school. Being the only History teacher means I will be able to shape and set the standards for the History dept. of that school.

So....you are thinking....what's the kicker?

Since it's a brand new school I would only get 200 a week. With me having to drive over an hour one way, my gas money would take up my paycheck. I have run every scenario in my head trying to figure out how I can teach at this school and still live.

My next interview. Complete opposite from the first. I was asked a series of questions, hopefully, I answered them correctly. The school.... did not make AYP and has a graduation rate right below 80%, and 95.5% of the student population is economically disadvantaged. But! I can get a full salary and benefits.

I think working there would def give me a challenge. With my social work background I think I also would understand the mind set of the students backgrounds, which puts me above the other teacher candidates.

It is funny how life can throw you such twists.
