Don't you think 6 months is long enough?

Katrina folks, it's time to move on. Today is the first round of evictions for the Katrina evacuees staying in hotel rooms. They have been living for free about 6 months now. (Actually in some cases they've been living for free their whole life)

Instead of picking up and finding a job or moving back to New Orleans in areas that are reopened the evacuees have now hired lawyers and filing a class-action suit. What?! Seriously, the government has already spent $529 million (only on hotel rooms) and this is not including all the donations. Now Michael Stipe is gathering up folks to come up with a benefit single for the evacuees. Which is great. I have absolutely no problem helping out a fellow human being, but when they wont help themselves I am done.

But, it's been 6 months. 6 months for people to find jobs, to go back home help with the clean up odd jobs of rebuilding homes. Or relocate in the 40 states that evacuees are taking up in hotel rooms.

I am a little more sensitive to the subject, b/c I work so closely with public housing that the mind set is no longer "what can I do to make it on my own two feet", it's now "give me, for free".

I can keep going, but I will cross my professional line.
