Oh Snap!

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

huh, it's already Tuesday

I feel like if I make my to do list here, I'll somehow magically get it done.

So here it goes:

Get admin approval for one class

Apply for student loans for the new year

Put away the scrapbooking materials

Clean, really clean my place

Buy a really cute cocktail dress

Go tanning

yep, that should do it, wonder if I can get all this done today after work? Maybe? Maybe i should have gotten up when my alarm went off and I could have done 2 of the items this morning. Eh.

Bush signed to lift the ban of off shore drilling. I really hope Congress follows. Yes, we need to start working on alternative energy sources, but we also need to be independent from other tempatantrum countries dominating what we pay for gas while they remain low costs.

Hell Mother Fackin' Yeah

Individual Americans have a right to own guns, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday for the first time in history, striking down a strict gun control law in the U.S. capital.

The landmark 5-4 ruling marked the first time in nearly 70 years the high court has addressed the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It rejected the argument the right to keep and bear arms was tied to service in a state militia.

Wrapping up the week

A lot has happened in the news this week...See what happens when I get caught up into school work.

So, to begin. Obama and McCain took Maryland, DC, and Virginia. Wohoo!
Obama had also taken Maine on the 10th. Yeah, Obama, boo Hilary!

The next primary news will not be updated until the 19th, when people will be looking at Hawaii (dems, reps aren't until May) and Wisconsin. Honestly, I don't have the faintest clue for Wisconsin. ...Dreadful Raw? Any thoughts?

Yesterday was Valentine's. Wohoo. Kept it low key, which was actually really nice.

Then, here's the news that greats me with a sadden heart. Northern Illinois University has experienced tragedy with 6 students dead and the shooter dead too. I grieve for the fact of people lost their lives, and for the fact that we live in such a world that school shootings have become almost a common practice amongst sociopaths.

Love me some politics

Ok, I called for McCain in Washington...and Washington delivered, but they shocked me when they gave it to Obama.

Obama swept up the Dem Primaries. He took Washington, Nebraska, and Louisiana. I figured on Louisiana for him, but not for Huckabee. Interesting.

Huckabee took both Nebraska and Louisiana leaving Washington to good ol McCain.

Now remember, Romney has only suspended his campaign. Meaning, he still has hold of his delegates and is eligible to raise money. Who knows if he will jump in at the end, I hope not.

Today the D's get together in Maine, then on Tuesday we are all looking toward Virginia, DC, and Maryland. Wohoo! That's going to be a toughie. We are staring at the triangle of politics with those states, and God knows what kind of contacts and information they have that we don't.

Tuesday, February 05, 2008

As of 11:25 pm on Super Tuesday McCain is winning in delegates and Clinton is also winning in delegates.

Huckabee is actually making a run for it.

California is too close to tell right now. The polls are closed, though.

I'm tired and for such a quick up to date era...it's really moving kind of slow to update any delegate news.

Super Tuesday

I've been saying that with the same tune as Wonder Dog. I don't know why, but it fits.

So, primaries...you better be out there voting. I don't care who you vote for (well, I do, but) just vote. The primaries determine who will be on the ballets. So when it comes time to vote for President and I hear anyone complain about they don't like anyone running, my first question: Did you vote in the primaries?

I've been locked away working on school projects, so I ducked low for a second. Now that I came back out to do my last minute research before voting....Ann Coulter will support Clinton if McCain wins...what?!

Wow.

Let's see what else; Clinton was on the Late Show last night, still spouting off big government and socialism. Obama has a whole bunch of actors and musicians supporting him with a rendition of his Yes, we can speech. Romney, yeah don't really like him and have nothing to say.

So. Have fun, remember to look up the issues before you vote and don't forget to watch tonight when they announce!

NO, NO, NO

Fulton to pay students in after-school program

Creekside High and Bear Creek Middle will pay students $8 an hour for "Learn & Earn" program

By MICHELLE E. SHAW

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 01/22/08

Fulton County schools want to pay students to stay in school a little longer. Forty students from Creekside High and Bear Creek Middle schools in Fairburn will be the first to try the "Learn & Earn" program, where students will get paid to attend after-school tutoring programs.Students will make approximately $8 an hour, and be eligible for bonuses if their grades improve, said Kirk Wilks, district spokesman. The initial students are in the eighth and 11th grades. There will be a community kick-off Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Creekside High media center, 7405 Herndon Rd., Fairburn. With the support of Fulton County Commissioner Robb Pitts, the pilot program will last 15 weeks and pay students for participation and performance. The object of the program is to determine if paying students to study will improve classroom attendance, grades and test scores, according to a news release from the district. The initiative is funded by Charles Loudermilk, chairman and chief executive officer of Aaron Rents, through the Learning Makes A Difference Foundation. The foundation is a local non-profit designed to improve education through creative programs. The students chosen for the program were picked by school staff, based on attendance, grades, test scores and free or reduced lunch status, the release said.

I am completely baffled at this atrocity! Let me point out a major problem; there is not enough money to pay teachers or pay for materials in which teachers wind up paying for out of pocket....but there is enough money to pay these brats more 2.15 MORE than minimum wage. Yes, I said brats; yes I know I want to teach. Brats are kids who stick out their hand with an attitude "you want me to do what you ask of me? Well then where's my money?" And this is exactly what will happen if this program for these 40 kids in Fulton county.
Kids talk, and the first thing out of other students not participating in this program...."Where's my money, I'm not going to take your stupid test"

So, my other thought, where/how did they choose the 40 kids who will be participating in this experimental program? Obviously, they are not the kids making the grade; well kids making the grade do not typically stay after school for tutoring. Well, they are not the kids involved with school extracurricular activities, because those kids are staying after school anyway...not being paid.
So who are our lovelies being paid to learn? I'll think about this while I rack up some more student loan debt studying how to teach these lovelies.

Heath Ledger Dead.

Wow, really...wow. I took a break from studying to find out that Heath Ledger is dead. Suicide: overdose of sleeping pills this afternoon.

Well, farewell. It will be hard watching you as the Joker this summer. Thank you for the roles you have brought us, being the son of a patriot, a jousting lord, and who can forget the smoking teenage rebel.

Thank you and goodbye.

'Bout damn Time

John McCain takes South Carolina! hallelujah!

Now I'm still trying to figure out what happened in Nevada. Romney and Clinton.

This makes three for Clinton...what happened to D's golden boy? Seriously?

Romney now has three and that scares me. So hopefully McCain will pick up Florida. I know, I know, Hawaii is next on the ticket but Florida is a hot spot at the moment. If McCain takes care of the South, he will be in good hands. The south loves their veterans. Not to mention he is Arizona Senator, home of Joe Arpaio. Best damn sheriff around.

Now, we have 5 days to see what happens for Republicans in Hawaii and 9 days to see how both Democrats and Republicans take care of Florida.

Results are in...

So Michigan spoke, and we hear Romney and Clinton are the choices. Romney, really? I'm not sure what to say about him at this moment. Clinton...oh God, y'all already know what I'm going to say about her...so I won't. There's no need to get angry over your morning coffee, I'm talking about me here BTW.

The interesting thing I noticed, though, was the number of Uncommitted in the Democratic party. GOP had 17,971 (2%) feel they were uncommitted to a particular candidate. Whereas, the Dems had 236,723 (40%) not knowing who they wished to support. Bigger surprise, Obama was not on the list. It went 50% for Clinton, 40% uncommitted, then dropped to 4% for Kucinich, and 1% for Dodd. If someone could tell me what happened to Obama? That'd be awesome.

The GOP, looks like they pretty much know which horse they are backing this early in the stage. Oh and Thompson beat out Guillani :( Not helping my case here, but needed to point that out.

15-Jan Michigan D&R Primary

Eyes are now focused on Michigan.

Romney is basing his campaign on his father: "George Romney, the former head of American Motors and a three-term governor of Michigan during the 1960s" (MyWay Jan 14, 2008)

hmmm.....I says.

McCain maybe able to win Michigan again, 8 years later. He won New Hampshire, and the Independents are showing more support for McCain than Romney. Even though they are neck in neck in the polls.

This will be tough for these two guys, b/c one has family & political roots in Michigan and the other already won the state in previous primaries.

As for the Democrats, only Clinton is standing out. I'm not seeing any last minute speeches, or campaign reach out...from any of the Dems. Even on mlive.com tagline: Everything Michigan.

so let's see how today rolls out.

It's Time

I'm sure some of y'all have noticed: I have not been talking about politics. This is kind of a shocker.

Honestly, I dropped out of paying attention to the news about 3 months ago. I have so much going on in my life that I needed to focus on my mental health before worrying about the news. Yada, yada, yada

So, now things are in motion where I want them to head in my life....IT"S TIME FOR PRIMARIES!

Oh, I'm so excited. Since, I'm behind I went surfing the web to find a straight and easy cut down of what is going on. I'm a spreadsheet type of gal. Seriously. I even put my animals shot records in a spreadsheet. So, of course I went looking for a spreadsheet set up of all the candidates and the primary projected winners. I couldn’t find anything. Now how in the hell am I supposed to be able to compare candidates if I can't draw my eye along a row and column comparing ideas and platforms?

So, in the next couple of months I'm going to try and devise a clear cut candidate spreadsheet. In the meantime, here's to keep track of the primary winners. I found the schedule from the National Conference of State Legislatures' website. I'm just adding on the projected winners as we go along. I'll post it right here for now, until I can find a good link. Of course I will let you know where I'll post, and my thoughts on the winners. Yeah Politics!

I'm very concerned

The Vietnam Memorial was defaced with a liquid that is now eating away at the granite and fallen soldiers names. Where's the coverage in the media?

The Free Republic is reporting this, so are other bloggers. There are even photos from bloggers on Flickr, yet no other media is covering this!

Now the Patriot Guard Riders have set up post to guard the wall.

Could it be that this statement goes against the idea of support the soldiers but not the war?

my heart aches

Shia LaBeouf and Rihanna are dating....I don't know what to do with myself now.

OK, not that obsessed, but it does sadden my heart just a tad that Shia is now a taken man.

Speaking of Hollywood, I saw my commercial! I was sitting on the couch and decided to watch court TV to see if I caught a glimpse of me....and I did! It's not a big part, just the side of my face pretending to work on court documents while a lawyer talks to the camera about his firm.

Makes me all giggly inside.

Weddings are fun, receptions are better, after after parties are the best!

Much Congrats to Bob and Camille!
