So, I am sitting in my car one day and I realize damn! I am an adult, a succesful on said adult. When did that happen? I thought I was a tard the last time I checked.
What is the definition of marriage? What is the socially acceptable behavior marriage acts to be recognized as a marriage?

Marriage is the only religious/spiritual tradition the government still wants to control, and our citizens continue to demand that the government control it.
Marriage... Maybe I'm not the best person to try answering this one - it's like moving your powder keg over to that nice bonfire so it'll stay dry...
Two people meet. They become one - a couple. They spend a lot of time together, perhaps even move in together (or at least want to). There's a spark there (one would hope), but regardless, they want to spend the rest of their lives together (at least that's how they feel right now). Marriage is an external sign to the world of that commitment - yes, we love each other, we want to be with each other, we're "off the market," as it were (at least your standard, non-open marriage is like that).
Is the whole ceremony required for love to work? In some relationships it actually becomes a hindrance. But it sure makes claiming on the other's health insurance easier - and the headaches that erupt when the other dies and leaves no will would stultify you...
Since when have people ever *truly* known what it is that they wanted? And when it was given to them, didn't they just turn around and want something else?
